The information below is intended to provide guidelines for sponsorships, monetary donations and other in-kind contributions to organizations and activities that provide support to address the economic, educational, social, and cultural needs of the communities served by AAA Mid-Atlantic.
AAA Mid-Atlantic is a not-for-profit, membership organization. Members pay their dues with the expectation that they will be used to provide member services. Therefore, our ability to use organizational funds for monetary contributions is limited. However, as a corporate citizen in the communities it serves, AAA Mid-Atlantic recognizes a responsibility, consistent with its business objectives, to respond to those communities' needs as appropriate. Quality of life, the well-being of our associates and their families as well as the economic, educational and cultural health of our society are of legitimate concern to the long-term viability of our organization.
Contributions should reflect corporate giving priorities and be consistent with a defined target range of earnings. To maintain such consistency the budget is reallocated annually and will be reviewed on an on-going basis throughout the year against actual current organizational financial performance.
The organization provides major operational and financial support to its Mid-Atlantic Foundation for Safety and Education which also solicits contributions from AAA members and others. Major annual contributions are also made to the national AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety and to the United Way which is the principal vehicle to provide support for human services agencies. Additional requests from such agencies supported by the United Way may be considered for separate individual donations; however, the level of annual support currently provided through United Way will be a consideration when reviewing such donations.
The focus of our charitable donation program is on communities that lie within our service area and chiefly where significant numbers of our employees live and work. Within these communities, AAA Mid-Atlantic emphasis will be in support of programs that are based upon the principles of free enterprise and its education, economic development, safety, environmental and human services efforts.
For requests received from human services agencies that focus on countering individual hardship, in addition to consideration of its United Way participation consideration will also be given to personal development programs that have demonstrated individual level of personal participants' individual success in achieving economic self-sufficiency.
When an organization applies for a sponsorship or contribution, it may be requested to demonstrate that it has a clear purpose, provides a needed service and is efficiently operated. Successful applicants will normally meet the following criteria to be considered for a contribution:
