Feb. 1, 2019—– Pizza, snacks and beer are synonymous with watching the ultimate football fan celebration, the Super Bowl. But driving after drinking alcohol and/or doing drugs after the big game can be deadly. AAA South Dakota is urging all football fans to call the right play this weekend by passing the keys to a sober driver before the Super Bowl – and drinking - begins.
The South Dakota Department of Public Safety Office reports that 49 people were killed on South Dakota roads in 2017 in alcohol-related crashes. Law enforcement will be stepping up enforcement and education efforts this weekend.
“You can be your Super Bowl party’s MVP by volunteering to be a designated driver to help your family and friends get home safely,” said Marilyn Buskohl, AAA South Dakota spokesperson. “Drunk and drugged driving only leads to disaster and tragedy, and is never worth the risk. If you do plan to drink or use drugs, remember to pass the keys to the sober driver before kickoff.”
AAA urges party hosts to celebrate safely with these tips:
REMEMBER: A host who feels like he has lost a friend one night will have an even better friend the next morning.
